The Humane Society of West Michigan has a surplus of dogs at their shelter currently. On top of the ones they already were housing they have dogs that have been displaced due to hurricanes and dogs who were transferred from other shelters due to overcrowding.

Today (Friday) they will be offering $50 off all adult dogs, ages 6 months and up. Dogs are normally $195 to adopt and all are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on their necessary shots.

In a Facebook post, they say are in dire need of emergency adopters.

The Humane Society of West Michigan just updated their hours so they're open even longer today from 11a-6p. No appointment is necessary to adopt an animal. You can just stop at the shelter and see which pup you fall in love with and hopefully adopt!

2020 saw a huge jump in animal adoptions but, sadly, once people started coming out of the pandemic and back into their normal lives, shelters saw an increase in owner surrenders. Just less than a month ago, the BISSELL Pet Foundation held an "emergency" empty the shelters event because all around the country there was a 6-13% spike in owner surrenders and less animals getting adopted. A press release sent by BISSELL shared that the event saw an adoption of over 1,800 dogs and cats in less than a week.

If you love animals but aren't in a situation to adopt, you can always help the Humane Society of West Michigan by volunteering, donating, or even fostering.
