The Red Wings and Pistons are in last place. Michigan just got clobbered by Ohio State (again!). The mediocre Spartans stumbled into bowl eligibility. And the Lions, well, they're the Lions. But there is a Michigan team that's winning...

Ladies and Gentlemen -- the Central Michigan University Chippewas have won the Mid American Conference West Division, and will play in a championship game this weekend!!

The Chippewas, a sad 1-11 just a year ago have played their way into a title game by whipping an Ohio team, Toledo, 49-7, on Black Friday.

The Chips have won three straight and six of their last seven and will square off with Miami of Ohio Saturday at noon at Ford Field in Detroit for the MAC championship.

By the way -- all five major college programs in Michigan are bowl eligible for the first time ever. That doesn't necessarily mean the Eastern, Western, Central, U of M and MSU will all go to bowl games, but it's possible. let's see Ohio do that...

So take heart Michigan sports fans, there is joy up north in Mount Pleasant, now go out there and embrace the Chippewas, and Fire Up Chips!
