Flags Across Michigan At Half Staff Sunday For Fallen Firefighters
Sunday you'll notice the U.S. and Michigan flags around the state flying at half staff in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Day, according to WZZM13.
“Firefighters across our great state represent the best of what it means to be a Michigander. Today we remember Michael Lubig and Robert Phillips II and the selfless firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. We are grateful for the service of both professional and volunteer firefighters.”
The two firefighters she mentioned, being honored on National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service day, are:
- Michael J. Lubig of the Detroit Fire Department — Nov. 12, 2018
- Robert J. Phillips II of the Memphis Fire Department — Sept. 23, 2018
National Firefighters Memorial Service Day happens each year at the start of Fire Prevention Week, which this year is Sunday through Saturday, October 12th. Funny, I remember being a fire marshall in school and this was our week to shine, WZZM says we've been doing Fire Prevention Week since 1925. That's crazy.
