Some really cool old planes flew down the Grand River corridor Wednesday to mark the V-J Day. And my friend Carl got some great close ups.

Hats off to my comedian friend Carl Sobel for nailing some really good close up shots of the vintage aircraft that took part on the celebration Wednesday.

The flyover was part of a state wide commemoration marking the end of hostilities of World War II 75 years ago.

The planes were a B-17 long range bomber, a C-47 Skytrain troop transport and a B-25 bomber. they flew from Ypsilanti, their home airport over the State Capitol in Lansing and on down the Grand River past the Ford Museum, who helped stage the event, along with the Greatest Generation Day Committee.

Hats off to Carl for nailing these close up shots. Now go to his comedy show every Wednesday at River North Public House (showtime 8pm) to pay him back. Nice job, Carl!

This is the B-25 Mitchell, a medium range bomber used in the both the European and Pacific theaters.
