If you are up early watching Fox 17, you've seen Brody Carter sitting behind the anchor desk. He can also be heard some mornings doing the Fox 17 News Updates on our Townsquare Media Radio Stations.

In a Facebook video last week, Brody announced that he has been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy.

Brody mentions in his video that he has been getting a lot of information on Bell's Palsy from the Mayo Clinic website which says: "The symptoms of Bell's palsy include sudden weakness in your facial muscles. In most cases, the weakness is temporary and significantly improves over weeks. The weakness makes half of your face appear to droop. Your smile is one-sided, and your eye on that side resists closing."

It goes on to say: "For most people, Bell's palsy is temporary. Symptoms usually start to improve within a few weeks, with complete recovery in about six months. A small number of people continue to have some Bell's palsy symptoms for life."

Like in Brody's case, signs and symptoms of Bell's Palsy come on suddenly. Mayo Clinic says signs of Bell's Palsy may include:

  • Rapid onset of mild weakness to total paralysis on one side of your face — occurring within hours to days
  • Facial droop and difficulty making facial expressions, such as closing your eye or smiling
  • Drooling
  • Pain around the jaw or in or behind your ear on the affected side
  • Increased sensitivity to sound on the affected side
  • Headache
  • A loss of taste
  • Changes in the amount of tears and saliva you produce

In rare cases, Bell's palsy can affect the nerves on both sides of your face.

In the video you may notice that Brody even has a hard time saying "Bell's Palsy" with one half of his face paralyzed.

Brody is asking for your prayers as he recovers from this. We wish him all the best -- and send our prayers as well. In the mean time Brody, enjoy some time with your little furry friend Henry!
