Kids can learn to fish for free and might even walk away with some cool prizes next Saturday, June 29th in Byron Center!

The 2019 Free Fishing Derby is hosted by the Ray Park Foundation at Whistestop Park, 9a.m. to 1p.m.

There are no fees are you don't have to register ahead of time.

Kids ages 3 to 13 can gain fishing skills by checking out three learning stations: the Bait Station, All About Fish Station, and Casting Station.

Experienced fishermen and women will be there to instruct and assist the kids in baiting their hooks and celebrating their catches.

Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles-- but they say they have plenty for the kids to borrow, AND the first 100 kids will get a free Zebco rod and reel combo!

At 1p.m. prizes will be presented for Biggest Fish and Most Fish caught.

Above is video from last year's event.
