In an ironic twist of fate a Los Angeles tree planted in memory of late Beatle George Harrison became overrun with beetles, which caused the tree to die!

Harrison, who died in 2001, spent his last days in L.A. and was known to be an avid gardener, thus a pine tree was planted in Griffith Park in 2004 in his memory.

Apparently the trees in Griffith Park are exposed to bark beetles and ladybug infestations.

You can’t make this stuff up!

Says the L.A. Times:

Except for the loss of tree life, Harrison likely would have been amused at the irony. He once said his biggest break in life was getting into the Beatles; his second biggest was getting out.”

Word is another memorial tree will be replanted, but no date has been set yet.
