There are only a handful of drive-ins left in our state. One of them is the Getty Drive-In located in Muskegon.

The Getty is gearing up to begin their 2020 season this Friday, June 5th, to kick off their 76th season.

Indoor movie theaters still all remain closed, but being an outdoor theater, the Getty will be able to open this weekend. Of course with the coronavirus, there will be some changes and new precautions.

First, you are encouraged to buy your tickets online ahead of time at their website, www.celebrationcinema.com. To help encourage you to do so, they will be waiving their “online convenience fees” for the months of June and July. If you do purchase tickets online, you will be rewarded with a “fast tracked”, separate entrance lane.

The drive-in also won’t be as crowded. To help with social distancing, they will only be operating at 50% of capacity. That means only half the cars and more parking spaces to choose from.

If you get hungry and want to head to the concession stand, the line will be outside. Masks are encouraged while inside getting your food and drink. They hope to soon be able to offer online ordering and delivery.

Leave your cash at home. Only credit and debit cards will be accepted.

Movies scheduled for this weekend include “Sonic the Hedgehog” (PG), the 1978 version of “Superman” (PG), “Trolls World Tour” (PG), and “The Invisible Man”.

The Getty Drive In is located at 920 E. Summit Ave. in Muskegon.

Maybe I'll see you "at the movies" this weekend!
