A winter storm heading eastward after menacing the Plains states will have only a wet impact on Grand Rapids.

A Big Winter Storm Which Dumped Two Feet Of Snow Out West Will Whimper Out

The Pacific storm making its way across the country will get hit by some southern warm air, and just be a rain event for the Grand Rapids area on Wednesday afternoon into evening.

The storm, which will start with some minor snowfall Tuesday night, will turnover to all rain by late in Grand Rapids Wednesday afternoon, thus limiting its impact here.

That doesn't mean there won't be problems, the National Weather Service says freezing rain will slicken roadways north and east of the Grand Rapids area Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

Freezing Rain, Sleet And Snow Will Fall North From Newaygo County To Cadillac

About a tenth to two tenths of an inch of ice will coat northern Kent County up towards Cadillac and beyond into Thursday.

North beyond Cadillac is expecting a lot of the precipitation to fall as snow with someone portions of the northern lower peninsula into the eastern upper peninsula expecting to get a couple of inches of new snow.

The Lake Effect Engine Will Start Up Again This Weekend

The West Michigan region isn't out of the woods yet, as cold winds circulating behind this storm could fire up the lake effect engine early this weekend into early next week, although how much will fall still remains to be seen. Early indicators are it may not be too much, but enough to make travel kind of nasty at times.
