GR: Free Wine Tastings

Why wait until Wednesday for some wine tasting? Enjoy some free wine after work on Mondays.

House of Wine is open for business on 53 Monroe Center St NW right next to Brick & Porter. They were one of the lucky businesses downtown that only had spray paint and no broken windows and that's good news for a business that got it's start on December of 2018. While they've been open the whole time, today Monday, June 22 they are resuming their free wine tastings starting at 6:00 pm.

Every Monday they offer Free Wine Tastings of two wines and for just $1.00 more you can taste a third wine too. Owner Jim Lynch or Sommelier Summer will take your through the tastings. Summer also has been hosting "Taste Like A Sommelier" workshops - check with them on schedule.

House of Wine already had outside seating on the sidewalk. Now that Monroe Center is blocked off you can purchase wine and enjoy it on the tables and section designated for House of Wine. Not only is that great for social distancing, but there are some great trees on the street and so happy to see that the city of GR has done that for all the restaurants on the street.

Insider tip - go before 6PM for Happy Hour and enjoy discounts on food and some wine that is only available during Happy Hour. My personal favorite is Pimento Horseradish spread served with fresh baguette and crackers. They also have a great Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon that you can't get after 6pm.  Not a wine lover? They also have several Michigan beers on tap and in cans.

Enjoy their Build A Charcuterie Board, which I recommend the Margherita Pepperoni and some Beemster Goat Gouda cheese.

Back to the other wines you can taste by the glass a "taste" size or full glass. Starting with whites - try the Good Harbor Michigan Chardonnay - very crisp or the Black Stallion California Sauvignon Blanc. For some interesting reds try Red Schooner California Malbec, Klinker Brick Zinfandel. Bigger reds include Quilt and Caymus Cab's and Prisoner Red Blend.
