MLive is reporting that new Segway patrol vehicles purchased by the Grand Rapids Police Department could be in action as early as next week.

While the Paul Blart comparison is obvious, it turns out the Segway SE-3 patroller is no joke.

The SE-3 patroller is a sturdier, more juiced up version of the original Segway vehicle that Blart rode on (as you know he was well versed on the P-133, see below).

Their purchase was approved by the Grand Rapids City Council at this week's meeting. Police officials say the vehicles will be up and running by the end of the summer, maybe as early as next week.

It would be used in the immediate downtown area around Rosa Parks Circle, Monroe Center, and down the Division Street corridor between Heartside and the Medical Mile.

According to Segway.com:

The SE-3 Patroller is for those missions that require a larger vehicle which can display a more visible and obvious security presence (even in a parked position without a rider aboard), or those situations that require a rider to frequently mount and dismount the vehicle.

Check out those features!!

As long as this doesn't happen, I think it's cool.
