The Gerald R Ford International Airport continues to grow with Monday’s announcement.

Airport officials announced that starting in April, American Eagle, the regional carrier for American Airlines, will offer non-stop service to Reagan National Airport. The airline is planning 12 weekly round trip between Grand Rapids and DC.

This is the 2nd nonstop service to the nation’s capital, with United already flying to Dulles International Airport.  The new route provides easier access to those needing to get downtown D.C. as the airport is located near downtown.

The airport’s interim president and CEO, Phil Johnson told MLive:

"Nonstop service to Reagan National Airport has been a target market of ours, and we are happy to have this route added for both our leisure and business travelers headed to the Washington D.C. area.”

American Airlines already provides service in and out of Grand Rapids with flights to Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas/Ft Worth and Philadelphia.  With Monday’s announcement, the new flights to Reagan National brings the number of airports you can get to from Grand Rapids, nonstop, to 24 around the country.
