The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is one of 94 airports in Michigan receiving a grant from the U.S. government.

The CARES Act Grant, signed by President Trump, sets aside $10 billion for airports in the U.S. as economic relief due to the coronavirus pandemic. The money will keep them operating throughout, and according to the FAA, it will also keep people employed and credit ratings stable.

Michigan airports will receive $256 million of that total with the G.R. Ford getting $16.2 million. A list of how the funds will be divided can be found here. DTW is getting the largest amount in the state with almost $142 million in grant money.

Governor Whitmer thanked Congress for the act.

...these grants will provide much-needed resources to help airports across the state weather this public health crisis and be prepared when more people resume air travel (via WLNS).
