We all know that Grand Rapids is Beer City, USA.

Sadly, it was recently announced that the annual Beer City USA poll has closed.

So, now what?

Now, Grand Rapids is celebrating Beer City Week!

The week-long celebration runs Saturday through May 10, and is filled with events for beer lovers!

Beer City Week kicks off with Hudsonville’s first ever craft beer festival, Beer City Spring Fest, on Saturday, May 3 at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds.

I’ve checked out the beer list: Founders, Schmoz, White Flame, Osgood and Bell’s are among the 30 different breweries you can sample at the festival.

Beer City Week also includes daily tours of local breweries and free tastings at the Breton Village D & W from 4-6 p.m. on May 7 and 8.

Check out the complete list of events at the Beer City Week website.

Just in time to join in the Beer City celebration is Grand Rapids’ newest brewery, Elk Brewing (who will also be at the Hudsonville Craft Beer Fest).

Located over on Wealthy St., a “Coming Soon” sign has been hanging in their window since 2011. So needless to say, Elk Brewing has been a long time coming and now the wait is finally over!

Today, May 2, is the big day: Elk Brewing has finally opened their doors! They just received their state liquor license this week and they’re not wasting any more time.

The eigh8th brewery to open within Grand Rapids’ city limits, Elk Brewing is open today from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. so go check them out!
