The ice cream shop and food stand, which opened for the season April 5, announced the closure to Facebook. The owners say it's a "sad decision".

Dairy Treat's last day in business will be this Saturday, May 22.

In pictures online, it appears the ice cream shop, which is close to Roger's Plaza, was possibly once free-standing.

Currently Dairy Treat, sometimes referred to as "Brigg's Dairy Treat" online, is part of the 28th Street Mobil Plaza, along with a Subway.

I wasn't able to find a menu, but it appears Dairy Treat serves up hot dogs, soft pretzels, sundaes, dole whip, flurries, ice cream, and other frozen treats -- and I've seen a lot of comments about the chili dogs!

Folks are sharing memories online about the long-standing ice cream joint:

"My 1st job in 1985 at age 15"

"They’ll definitely be missed by several decades of happy customers!"

"Sad, sad news. We used to take our baseball teams up there. Had the best chili dogs a round. "

"I have been going to this ice cream shop since I was a little girl. Their ice cream and sherbet twists are the best! I introduced my daughters and grandchildren to this shop, and now three generations of my family are enjoying their ice cream!"

Have you been to Dairy Treat on 28th Street? Are you sad to see it go? What would you like to see replace it?

Or do you have another go-to spot for ice cream in Grand Rapids?
