The new Detroit Pistons affiliate and NBA Development League team that moved to Grand Rapids from Springfield, Mass., in April has revealed its new name.

Announcing the Grand Rapids Drive.

The team held a contest launched in May to let fans pick the name of the new franchise.

The Drive beat out Blue Racers, Chairmen and Horsepower.

The nickname Drive pays homage to team's affiliate, the Pistons, as well as the automotive history of Michigan and Detroit.

Out of the four choices, I prefer Drive the best.

Says team president Steve Jbara:

Unveiling the team’s new name and logo is an important step in our history and brings the team one step closer to tipping off the season"

The Grand Rapids Drive will play its games at the DeltaPlex Arena & Conference Center in Walker starting in November and is one of 18 NBA D-League teams competing for the 2014-15 season.
