The Grand Rapids Police Department is bringing awareness to men's health issues. They'd like you to join them and keep your man parts.

Well, that got our attention.

It's part of Movember, a nationwide movement to "make a difference for men's health in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention."

The idea is to grow a mustache in November to help start conversations and raise awareness. To put it better, grow a Mo to save a Bro.

The movement launched in Australia in 2003, then officially came to the U.S. in 2007. Since it began, $837 million has been raised to fund research and other projects.

U.S. men's health facts:

  • Prostate cancer is the second-most common cancer in men. One in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men. More than 250,000 men are estimated to be living with a diagnosis of testicular cancer.
  • 3 in 4 suicides are men. More than 34,000 men die by suicide each year.
