Grand Rapids Police Say Man In Custody In Attempted Abductions
The Grand Rapids Police released a photo of a man they say may be involved with several abductions attempts on the West Side. The photo led to a man being held in the incidents.
The photo showed a man they say may have attempted to abduct children by luring them into his car, mainly by asking if they could help find his puppy.
According to a Grand Rapids Police Department press release from late Tuesday:
The suspect is described as follows: either a very tan White or Middle Eastern male, approximately 40 years of age, 5'10 to 6'0", heavy build, with a black full beard. The suspect was last seen wearing a gray shirt, khaki shorts and sandals.
Our news partner, FOX 17 is now reporting that a man has been apprehended in the incidents for questioning.
Grand Rapids Police Facebook page says the man was taken without incident. He had indicated to some of the people he approached that he was armed.
According to the initial release:
The suspect attempted to lure juvenile males between the ages of 5 and 13 years of age, with a ploy of helping him find his lost dog. A weapon was implied in at least one of the incidents. Each of the victims have given a similar description of the surveillance photos obtained.
His attempts and lack of success in the incidents lead me to believe that the children approached all handled the situation and got away as quickly as possible.
These events are a reminder to educate your children on how to handle being approached by a stranger.
