Rockford Construction announced yesterday that they will break ground early next month on a housing development with college students in mind on Grand Rapids’ West Side.

Fulton Place will be located on Fulton Street West, between Lexington and Seward Streets.

Adjacent to Grand Valley State University’s (GVSU) Pew campus, and a short distance to Grand Rapids’ Center City, Fulton Place will include three buildings. The buildings will include  a 13,000-square-foot building with seven three-story townhomes, each with four bedrooms; a three-story 5,500-square-foot building  with three apartments, each with three bedrooms; and a five-story 125,000-square-foot  mixed-use building with 102 units with a mix of 1 bedrooms and lofts, 2 bedrooms and 4 bedrooms.

Amenities at Fulton Place will include almost 10,000 square feet of ground level retail space and on-site residential parking, which will include a two-story garage and street level parking.

This is an emerging area of the city, in large part due to the growth of Grand Valley State University, and we want to ensure there are adequate and quality housing options available,” said Mike Mraz, partner, real estate development at Rockford Construction. “As GVSU and others continue to offer more class options in the city, we need to have a place for students to live, work and feel like they are a part of the city 24-hours a day.”

A formal ground breaking ceremony for will take place on May 5, and construction will be completed in time for students to move in for the 2016-2017 school year.
