With it being super cold in West Michigan this weekend, The Grand Rapids Police Department is reminding the public about car theft prevention.

According to a post on the GRPD Facebook page, local law enforcement in the area routinely see an increase in stolen vehicles at this time of year, when vehicles are left unsecured and running while "warming up".

They encourage residents to lock and secure vehicles and not leave valuables in plain sight.

Anyone who sees suspicious behavior, or has knowledge of these types of thefts should contact local law enforcement or Silent Observer
