The federal government has spoken. Gun Lake Casino will remain open, virtually forever.

The Wayland Township casino has had a legal cloud hanging over it since before one shovel of dirt was even turned on the complex.

A federal court was ready to start hearing arguments from a Wayland resident who had been challenging the casino's legal right to the land the building is on. In stepped the only person who could really change the whole landscape.

Gun Lake Casino is staying open because the legal battle has been resolved, Lansing's WILX-TV reported:

Congress has passed special legislation pertaining to the Gun Lake Casino that essentially says federal courts don't have the authority to hear a case filed against it."

The casino broke ground in 2009, and a trustee had sued in 2008 over the federal government's right to take the land into trust for the Native American tribe.

Formal dismissal of the lawsuit is pending.

So, in a nutshell, even the U.S. Supreme Court can't hear a case against the casino, based on this bill being signed by President Obama.

Case closed. Door shut. Good night everybody!

This means I get to keep going to "The Jackpot Capital of Michigan." Yay!
