I love living in Beer City, USA! The craft beer scene in Grand Rapids is excellent and there are so many great beers to choose from- now it’s time to share the wealth!

One of my favorite brew pubs in Grand Rapids, HopCat, just announced this morning that they’ll be opening a new location in Indianapolis.

The original HopCat, located downtown on Ionia, opened in 2008 and is owned by Mark Sellers of BarFly Ventures.

There are many reasons why I love HopCat, but I’ll list only a few.

First, of course, is the beer! HopCat’s Grand Rapids location has 48 taps serving seasonal, local and regional brews. They specialize in Michigan brews, but HopCat also offers a large selection of regional craft beers, with a large Belgian selection including beers from around the world. You’re sure to find a beer you love at HopCat.

I also love HopCat’s food! Their “Crack Fries” have a reputation that precedes them- and with good reason! There’s just something about that magical combination of seasonings that makes them addictive. I also crave their Killer Mac & Cheese! I like to add bacon to mine.

The Indianapolis HopCat will be located at 6280 N. College Ave and feature 130 taps- the largest beer bar in Indianapolis.

Owner Mark Sellers says he plans to open 12-15 HopCat locations across the Midwest within the next five years.

HopCat- East Lansing opened last year and another HopCat is under construction in midtown Detroit. State records also show that Sellers has set up HopCat LLCs in Ann Arbor and Chicago.

BarFly Ventures also own several other bars in Grand Rapids including Stella’s Lounge, McFadden’s and Grand Rapids Brewing Company.
