If you are looking for a good, old-fashioned fair -- the Hudsonville Community Fair starts this Monday, August 23rd.

The first Hudsonville Community Fair was held back in 1933 as a three day event at the high school gymnasium. The fair has grown quite a bit in the last 88 years. The early fairs included band concerts, spelling bees, and local talent. In later years some animal competitions were added along with the exhibits. Baseball and parades were often the biggest attraction. Now the fair is a week long and draws over 80,000 people.

The fair of today features rides, animals, 4-H exhibits and entertainment throughout the week.

Some of the highlights this year include:

Monday, August 23rd -- At 1 pm there is a dog show in the show arena. Later that evening, at 7 pm, it's the Hot Diesel Trucks, Farm Stock and Antique Tractor Pulls in the Grandstand.

Tuesday, August 24th -- At Noon there will be a Gymnastiks Unlimited Show in the Free Entertainment Tent. At 7 pm you have your choice of the Maciek's Magic Show in the Free Entertainment Tent or the Broken Horn Rodeo in the Grandstand.

Wednesday, August 25th -- At 7 pm you have a choice of seeing the Scottville Clown Band in the Free Entertainment Tent or heading over to the Grandstand for the Grand National NTPA Truck & Tractor Pulls.

Thursday, August 26th -- At 11:30 am there will be a Frog Race in the Free Entertainment Tent. Your entertainment at 7 pm Thursday evening will be either Cal Klokkert, a Johnny Cash Impersonator, in the Free Entertainment Tent or the Hudsonville Fair off-road Derby in the Grandstand.

Friday, August 27th -- In the Free Entertainment Tent there will be a Turtle Race at 11:30 am (hopefully it's not a long course or it could take awhile!), followed by a Pedal Pull at noon. Local favorites The Williams Family Band perform in the Free Entertainment Tent at 7 pm, or you can enjoy SJO Supercross Racing in the  Grandstand.

Saturday, August 28th -- Wrapping up the week, there will be a Monster Truck show in the Grandstand at 6 pm. In the Free Entertainment Tent, beginning at 7 pm, it will be the Burt Jones Band.

Rides are always a favorite at the fair. Arnold Amusements Inc. start rides on Tuesday, with the rides scheduled run from 1-11 pm Tuesday through Friday, and from Noon to 11 pm on Saturday, weather permitting.
