It Could Soon Be Easier To Own A Pistol in Michigan

If one lawmaker has his way, it may soon be easier and cheaper to own a pistol in the state of Michigan.

Currently, if you want to own, carry or transport a pistol in the “Mitten” state, you have to apply for a license and you can be charged a $250 fine if you’re caught with a pistol in your possession without the registration.

Well, MLive is reporting that Lee Chatfield, who’s a Republican State Representative, has drafted a bill that would make the registration optional and do away with the fine.  He says the current law is doing little to deter crime.

Don’t get too excited yet, so far the bill has only been sent to the House Judiciary Committee for review and would have to still pass the state House and Senate and be approved by the governor before it can become a law.
