Adulting ain't easy...

For those living on their own for the first time (or heck, all of us!) there are certain tasks that can seem overwhelming. If you'd like help figuring out how to build your credit, understanding your medical insurance, how taxes are deducted from your paycheck - there are free classes for that!

MSU Offers Adulting 101 Classes

Michigan State University Extension is offering four upcoming webinar seminars on "Adulting".

MSU says their "Adulting 101" program aims to help teens and young adults demystify the obscure reality of being an “adult” and are packed full of important life skills and tools necessary to live independently.

For anyone under 17, parental authorization is required. For anyone over 18 - the programs are open to adults of all ages!

The first session is in late January, the last session in mid April. Here are the course descriptions from MSU:

International Conversations - Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. ET
An engaging cultural conversation about another country. Gain new knowledge and ask questions that interest you with an international guest.

Insurance 101- Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. ET
Are you confused about how medical insurance works? Have you ever wondered what a deductible is...what the difference is between an HMO and PPO plan...and why knowing your out-of-pocket maximum is important? Understanding medical insurance can be tricky! Join this session to learn the basics.

Paycheck and Taxes - Thursday, March 16 at 4 p.m.
Understanding why and how taxes and other items are deducted from a worker's paycheck is an important step toward gaining financial knowledge. Explore what taxes are and why we pay them. See how taxes affect your salary vs. your take home pay.

Build and Protect Your Credit - Wednesday, April 12 at 6 p.m.
Learn about credit and how it impacts future goals. This workshop will address credit myths, explain the importance of credit reports, demystify credit scores and provide strategies to build and protect your credit.
