First Home Built in Muskegon Heights in 17 Years Built by Students

Not Every Michigan Town Is Booming With New Homes
Not every town in Michigan has new homes being built even though there are nearly 5,000 newly built homes for sale across the state.
During the pandemic, the price of lumber shot through the roof making it even more difficult for families to build their dream homes, and in some cases putting the dream out of reach.
Some parts of Michigan have not seen growth and were struggling for a myriad of reasons even before the pandemic. One of those areas is Muskegon Heights which had not seen a new home built in almost 20 years.
Local Students Build New House In Muskegon Heights
It has been 17 years since the last new home was built in Muskegon Heights, and the newest home was built by local students from a trade center.
Over 60 students who attend the Career Tech Center in Muskegon were involved in building a brand-new 1500-square-foot home.
A resident of Muskegon Heights by the name of Janet Robinson is the one who donated the property for the students to build the home on. It was Robinson's great-grandmother who originally owned the property and the home that was once there.
The home has turned out great with an open concept that features 3 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. Locals are beginning to take tours of the home in hopes others like it will be constructed in the future.
According to FOX 17,
Robinson said, "I look at that as my great-grandmother, my brand mother, showing me that they are smiling down from Heaven, have the approval of this house. This is just the beginning." You can see more about the house by clicking here.
