Faced with a major increase in stray and surrendered animals, the non-profit organization is now taking emergency action to find loving homes for these dogs.

Harbor Humane Society Reaches Full Capacity For Adult Dogs

To address the crisis, Harbor Humane Society has launched an emergency "Empty the Shelters" adoption event running from April 11th through April 13th.

During this time, all adult dog adoption fees will be reduced to just $25, making it more accessible for prospective pet owners to provide these animals with permanent homes.

Jen Self-Aulgur, Executive Director of Harbor Humane Society told WZZM 13 that the shelter is in a really tough spot.

We're in a really tough spot right now, Our kennels are full, and we're desperate to get these dogs out of the shelter and into loving families. This adoption special is our way of making it as easy as possible for people to open their homes to these wonderful animals.

Why Is The Shelter So Full?

Harbor Humane's current overcrowding is a combination of many things, including an increase in stray intakes, more pet surrenders due to owners' changing circumstances, and limited adoption interest in recent months.

With no signs of slowing down, Harbor Humane is pleading with the community to consider adopting during this critical period.

Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the Harbor Humane Society website or facility to meet the available dogs and complete the adoption process.

With the $25 fee waiver and all animals spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, there has never been a better time to welcome a new furry family member.
