Meet the ‘Pawsatively’ Adorable New Member of GRFD’s Fire Squad
Earlier this year, The Grand Rapids Fire Department announced that their longtime firedog Axel was retiring which left us a little bummed that the main firehouse on LaGrave Street will be missing a wagging tail.
But, that vacancy wasn't left open for long, because they're now welcoming a new wet-nosed company member to join their family for a very special reason. Meet Smokey, the 6-month old labradoodle that is now living with the Grand Rapids Fire Department.
"Who's a good fire dog? You're a good fire dog!"
You won't catch Smokey leaping off an engine and running into a burning house to save a family, but instead he has a very special job with the company.
Smokey will be a fur therapy pup who hangs out around the fire house and in the community, helping spread good will and smiles for everyone that meets him.
According to his introduction post on his official instagram account, he's a good boy who loves to give kisses and help around the firehouse. And he's so excited to meet everyone that he can.
How did he get the job? He didn't have to apply, he is actually Chief Brad Brown's pet who has been recruited to make the main firehouse his home away from home.
When he’s not roaming the firehouse floor or napping in the chief’s office, Smokey will be out in the community helping read to school kids and greeting people at events like National Night Out which happened earlier this week.
So give him a follow on instagram, and we hope to see him out and about greeting us all with a few kisses in the future. Thanks for joining the squad, Smokey! We can't wait to see what you do.
