Foodies Rejoice! South Haven Is Now Welcoming Food Trucks Year-Round

I don't know if there is something wrong with me, but I am obsessed with a lot of the food trucks that set up around West Michigan.

My husband and I have been known to chase down our favorite paella truck when it's around, we're regulars when Righteous Cuisine rolls their truck into town, and don't get me started on my obsession with becoming the ring leader of the underground cookie club. (or at least trying every flavor they offer)

Food Trucks are a great way for start up kitchens to get going. They don't have to worry about the cost of rent when they're starting out, and they can raise money until they can eventually afford their own Brick and Mortar.

But it really bums me out in the winter months when they go away because the snow is out, while many West Michigan city ordinances tell them that they're out of season, and to go home.

After a city council meeting last week, the city of South Haven has decided to lift a few of their restrictions on Food Trucks and mobile vendors.

The city of South Haven approved changes to what times,  how long and how many mobile vendors and food trucks can set up. The new and improved regulations were approved by city council members at their March 20 meeting, and here's what's changing:

What are the new rules for food trucks and mobile vendors in South Haven?

Previously in South Haven, any food trucks or mobile vendors that set up could only be around between the months of April and October, which limited the amount of business they could generate.

However, with the new rules, Food Trucks will now be welcome year-round (no matter the weather) to sell and share their foods with the South Haven community.

Next, they extended the hours in which they are allowed to operate, saying that they can now open at 7am instead of 8am, like before. They however left the closing time at 10pm, which is fairly reasonable as is.

They also opened up two additional business districts for trucks to be set up, as well as allowing an additional 10 licenses to be issued in the community to accommodate.

This is fantastic news for foodies and mobile vendors alike, and hopefully it will help South Haven flourish even more year round.
