This Grand Rapids Coffee Shop on Wealthy is Designed for Dreamers

Previously known as Sparrow's Coffee, Scorpion Hearts Club on Wealthy Street is created for the bada** dreamers.

On January 7th, the switch happened. You may be wondering why the rebrand happened.

Well, you are in luck.

Owner, Lori Slager Wenzel shared an article about why she decided to rebrand the coffee shop on Wealthy after 15 years.

Lori states that she refers to The Sparrows as her "longest marriage."

"Somehow, Sparrows and I have been together for fifteen years, and I can't tell you how many times I've hoped it would end. She and I have been each other's favorite dance partners since the beginning, swinging between her glowing and shining all on her own, to my pushing her to be more, to be something else. She pushed me to be more creative, more responsive, and easier on myself. She was a warm, safe space for me when my heart couldn't hold the weight of my reality."

 

Later in her write-up, Lori mentions how she let go of the rein of Sparrows a little.

"After years of exclusivity, I let go of Sparrows and sold the roastery to Schuil Coffee. This was a huge benefit to me and my family, and I suddenly had a salary and health insurance. Schuil didn't buy my cafe, just the roastery-and the name, of course."

After the pandemic and the unfortunate passing of her husband, David, she used her grief as a journey and inspiration. Thanks to her sister, Heather, she realized she needed to take care of her "scorpion heart."

Now, Scorpion Hearts Club is her home. Always has been.

"This little cafe on Wealthy Street, and the community that has grown in and around her, are my home. Home is where the Scorpion Heart is."

When I visited Scorpion Hearts Club, I could tell how much love and care went into every single detail, including the hilarious coffee names.

I definitely think you should check out this coffee shop for sure.
