What is Going, Going, Gone? The Beloved Rosie’s Diner is Gone!

It was in 1991 that a famous diner made famous from TV commercials, moved into West Michigan, Rockford, to be exact, with a lot of excitement. It was called Rosie's Diner!

Rosie's was the place to go. So much fun, delicious fun, at Rosie's. Who can forget all the classic car shows they used to have there?

But sadly, this piece of West Michigan history, which has been closed since 2011, has fallen into disrepair.

Today, Fox 17 reported, crews removed the iconic "Rosie's Diner" sign from atop the diner car. So sad.

For those of us who remember, the diner was originally made famous by the Bounty paper towel commercials that actress Nancy Walker did for several years in the '70s and '80s. She played Rosie the waitress who cleaned up spills with the "Quick Picker Upper!"

The classic diner was built in 1946 and operated as the Silver Dollar Diner in New Jersey for many years.

Jerry Berta, a local artist who produces ceramic replicas of classic diners, always said the original Rosie's was one of his inspirations. He owned one diner, a 1947 Jerry O’Mahoney Dining Car when he found out that the New Jersey diner was for sale. He snapped it up and moved it next to his other diner in Rockford, and named it Rosie's!

It was such an iconic place to go. Admit it, stopping at Rosie's and getting such great comfort food was the best.

Jerry sold the diner in 2006, and the buyers ran it for a while but ultimately closed it in 2011.

Dawn Perry, the new owner, says the diner cars are being moved to a town in Missouri in the coming weeks.

Hopefully, the diner's new home will bring as much delicious fun and joy as we all had to the folks in Missouri.

Maybe it will still be called Rosie's.
