When you talk about our state of Michigan, what are some the key things you may think about to describe us?

Beauty, recreation, lakes, golf, raising a family, affordability are just a few. But, safety does not usually come up in the conversation. Is your safety at risk if you live in Michigan?

According to Movoto Real Estate blog, Michigan is a pretty safe state ranking number 33 out of all 50 states.

However, in Movoto's research, they found, using a complicated format of considering population (the cities had to have a population of 10,000 or more), crime rates according to the 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report including murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, and vehicle theft, to come up with their top ten most dangerous cities in Michigan.

By the way, Grand Rapids came in at number 16 for dangerous cities in Michigan.

Congratulations to Grand Haven because they came in as the safest in a Top 50 list.

So, it's a yes and no to the question of safety in Michigan. It's not the worst of all 50 states, but there are places here with high crime numbers that you certainly want to be aware of.
