Dozens of Michigan kids, teenagers and even adults go missing every year here in Michigan. Some are fortunate enough to have their stories solved, but there is a filing cabinet in the back of every police station where a few files of case files remain unsolved.

Sometime though, there are breaks in the cases, and we do luck out! This, is one of those cases.

Christine Castiglione Michigan - 1983

At the unfortunate time of her death, Christine Castiglione was a 19-year-old Michigan woman, who lived in Redford.

Christine was last seen in March of 1983. She had been walking home from a friends house on 5-Mile in Redford the last time she had been seen. Her boyfriend was on his way to pick her up, and had seen here on 5-mile road, but by the time he had caught up to where she last was, she was gone.

Ten days later, Chrstine was found in a remote wooded area near Fisher and Faussett roads near Village of Oak Grove. Which is nearly 45 miles away from where she had last been seen.

She was found raped and strangled. Investigators believe that her body had been left at this location prior to a snowfall, after she had last been seen.

40 Years Later - The Case Is Solved

The case went dry, as officers at the time interviewed multiple suspects with no leads. That is until 40 years later when the Livingston County Sheriffs Office recieved a grant fund to conduct advanced DNA testing on the suspects DNA samples taken from the crime scene back in the 80's.

After three confirmed familial DNA tests, all evidence pointed back to Charles David Shaw, who had been identified as the murderer.

Unfortunately, Shaw has been dead since November of 1983. Shaw died by accidental sexual asphyxiation.

At the time, Shaw was attempting to undergo a sex change, and was seeking counseling.
