A pilot with plenty of flying experience was in the right place at the right time, helping a young pilot make an emergency landing after her nose gear fell off.

Taylor Hash was on her third solo flight, and getting ready to land her single-engine plane Monday (3/27) in Pontiac. However, the 21-year-old newly-licensed pilot was unaware that part of her landing gear had fallen off.

In the Right Place at the Right Time

Chris Yates has been flying for years. The veteran pilot was in the right place at the right time and saw the younger pilot's nose gear falling from the sky. He immediately notified the air traffic control tower, and the personnel there contacted Hash. They then patched Yates in so he could speak directly with Ms. Hash.

Calm, Cool, and Collected

When the senior pilot got in touch with Hash on the radio, he reassured her that everything would be fine and calmly pointed out that the younger pilot had a couple of things in common with his daughter.

"Taylor, this is Chris," Yates said after finding out the pilot's first name. "My daughter's name is Taylor and I taught her to fly. We're gonna be just fine, kiddo."

Yates tells Inside Edition in the video below that memories of teaching his daughter to fly when she was young came flooding back.

A Safe Landing

Without proper landing gear, Yates guided Hash to a safe landing.

"Atta kid! Nice job!" he said as Taylor touched down on the runway. "There she comes, the nose is gonna come down."

Although there was some expected damage, Hash brought the plane down in one piece.

"I'm proud of you," Yates exclaimed on the radio.
