Clifford Adams, the longtime trombonist for Kool & The Gang, died Monday.

He was 62 years old, and had been battling liver cancer for a year.

Adams had no heath insurance to cover his medical expenses during his cancer fight. Before his death, some musicians, family, and friends were trying to raise money through fundraisers for a liver transplant, The Times of Trenton/New Jersey Live reported.

He also played with The Stylistics, Patti Labelle and The Bluebells and Duke Ellington's Orchestra during his career. He also released two solo albums.
