Gilda’s LaughFest Announces Fifth World Record Attempt [Audio]
Four years, four world records.
Can Gilda's LaughFest 2015 make it five?
Joanne Roehm from LaughFest joined "The Jojo Show" this morning to tell us about the latest effort to make the pages of the Guinness Book of World Records
Joanne told us the attempted world record this year will be for the most people wearing paper crowns in one place. The current record is 1,324 people in Kanchipuram, India, and was set last year.
The event will begin staging at 5:30 p.m. March 5 at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids.
LaughFest has successfully completed four world0record attempts:
- In 2011, 925 rubber chickens were tossed, shattering the previous mark of 265.
- In 2012, 607 people performed the largest chicken dance while wearing chicken beaks -- a mark that still stands.
- In 2013, 1,532 people donned fake mustaches to break a world record.
- In 2014, 1,675 people wore sunglasses at night at Rosa Parks Circle, another record that still stands.
LaughFest benefits Gilda's Club, which provides free emotional healthcare to children, adults, families, and friends on any kind of cancer journey or those grieving the death of someone in their life due to any cause. The organization is named after and honors the memory of Saturday Night Live cast member, the late Gilda Radner. (see video below)
