The Detroit Lions were looking for a slot receiver to replace Golden Tate, who was traded to Philadelphia last season. They found him.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting Monday morning that the Lions have inked a one year deal with former New England Patriots All-Pro receiver Danny Amendola. Amendola played last season with the Miami Dolphins.

The contract is worth a reported $5.75 million with all the bonuses attached.

Amendola made his name with the Patriots when current Lions head coach Matt Patricia was an assistant coach there. He caught most of his 485 career catches while with the Patriots.

He is renowned for his toughness in bringing down catches over the middle, much like Tate. He also had stints with Dallas, St. Louis and Philadelphia before making his name as a key Tom Brady target during his five seasons there.

Amendola played on two  Super Bowl championship teams while in New England. He also returned punts and kickoffs for the Pats.

Amendola is also a male model and he dated MissUniverse, Olivia Culpo for a few years.
