Back in 1967, an 18 year old Glenn Frey was trying to break into the record business in the Detroit area, when a fellow musician reached out to help him.

The resulting 45rpm single failed to chart, but showed enough signs of promise that a recording career was started. The rest was music history.

Glenn Frey, who passed away this week at the age of 67, grew up in the Detroit area and by the late '60s was getting a reputation in the area, despite being only 18. Enter Michigan music legend Bob Seger, who had gotten a foothold into the local recording scene.

Seger wrote two songs for Frey's new band, called The Mushrooms, and they recorded them for the Hideout label. They failed to chart, but they garnered frey enough confidence that he moved to Los Angeles and joined a little band called The Eagles.
