‘Mamma Mia!’ Here We Go Again: Meryl Streep Reportedly Signs on For Sequel
Dust off your old ABBA records and get ready to break out your best moves, dancing queens: A sequel to 2008's hit musical film adaptation of Mamma Mia! is on the way.
Universal Pictures is planning a follow-up to the movie musical, set to hit theaters in 2018—ten years after Mamma Mia! opened—and Meryl Streep has reportedly signed on to return.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel writer Oliver "Ol" Parker has been tapped to direct the flick, supposedly (and hopefully) titled Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, with much of the original cast expected to return, including Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård and more.
Reportedly both a prequel and sequel, the film is said to be set in both the present and past, with new actors playing younger versions of Donna Sheridan (Streep), Sam Carmichael (Brosnan), Harry Bright (Firth) and Bill Anderson (Skarsgård).
