Division Ave was shut down early this morning (Monday) after a 67-year-old man, from Gaines Township, was hit and killed by a car while crossing the road.

The accident happened just after 5:30 a.m. on Division Ave in Cutlerville. The man was crossing Division, at the intersection of Fontenelle Street when he was struck by a car.

Police say the driver did not see the man crossing the street in the dark. Once he noticed someone was in the street, he tried to avoid the pedestrian but didn't make it in time. The victim died on scene.

Alcohol nor speed were a factor in the accident.

This is the second person that has been hit by a car in less than 10 hours in Kent County. WZZM reports that a pedestrian was hit by a car, in Wyoming, around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night. The man was trying to cross the road at South Division, and 32nd street when a car hit him. He was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
