Matt Lauer was shockingly fired from NBC News and the Today show this morning (November 29). What will his termination mean for his relationship with Michigan-based Shinola?

In December of 2016 Lauer teamed with Detroit's Shinola on a line of items called the Matt Lauer Collection. The collection includes belts, a passport wallet, note cards and a paperback journal.

Sales from the collection benefited a school in Detroit.

This special collection features five items personally selected by Matt Lauer - essential items for every day - reimagined in styles co-designed by Lauer and Shinola.

The proceeds from the Shinola TODAY’S ORIGINAL collection will go to the Detroit Children’s Fund (DCF) to benefit the Detroit Edison Public School Academy, a public school run under The New Paradigm for Education that provides outstanding learning opportunities for children in Detroit, ensuring success through both high school and college.

(Editor's Note: Apparently Shinola has chosen to quickly separate itself from Lauer, removing links to the Matt Lauer Collection from its website within an hour of the news of Lauer's firing.)

Lauer's dismissal from NBC News was announced by his Today show co-hosts,

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb made the announcement LIVE on Today Wednesday morning with a graphic below noting that his termination was tied to 'inappropriate workplace behavior'.

A statement purported to be from high ranking NBC News officials notified employees of the news on Wednesday morning. Other reports say the allegations were sexual in nature.
