Normally when we talk about pet adoption we talk about a cat or dog, but pigs need love too!

Joan the pig has lots of love to give and is available for adoption now at the Humane Society of West Michigan. At just 2-months-old, she already has a great personality with equal parts sweetness, sass, and independence. Much like myself, Joan is a little slower to warm up but once she is comfortable she loves having her back scratched and getting treats. She also is a great snuggler who will run right up and lay her head in your lap. Joan is extremely smart and is already using her litter box consistently. She even gets along great with dogs and cats. Overall, Joan will make the perfect piggy to add to your household.

Did you know that one of the most common reasons people return their pets is because of a new baby in the home? In fact, when I adopted my cat from the Humane Society of West MI, I learned that she had been an owner surrender from a couple who recently had a baby.

If you are a parent-to-be and have a pet at home, there are ways to make that smooth transition. The HSWM is hosting an online Baby Ready Seminar on Saturday, Sept. 26.

We'll teach you how to start preparing your home and provide tips for making this big life transition as easy as possible for you, your pets, and baby!

The seminar begins at 10 a.m. on Zoom. To register, email Ashley at adahl@hswestmi.org.

The Humane Society is currently open by appointment only.
