Mel Trotter Thanksgiving Dinner is Different This Year

COVID-19/Coronavirus has certainly changed our lives with everything kind of upside down. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, how, or, will you be celebrating? For Mel Trotter Ministries traditional dinner it will totally change.

Met Trotter is certainly keeping the tradition going, but in a completely different way.

First of all, MTM’s annual Turkey Drop, a yearly event, is taking place the week before Thanksgiving at Celebration North and South Cinema locations whereby we can drop off either frozen turkeys or $15 toward the purchase of one It is set for Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Last year, over 1,600 turkeys were donated, however, this year the need and thus, the goal, is even greater. The goal is 2100 turkeys. There is a huge uptick in the number of meals needed for Thanksgiving Day.

Those turkeys, along with complete traditional side items, will then be used in assembled food boxes which will be distributed to local West Michigan food pantries. Anyone who would have normally gone to DeVos Place for the annual banquet will now be able to receive a prepackaged Thanksgiving meal via any participating pantry.

In the past, they would feed 1,500 people at the annual banquet, however, these new necessary changes will allow them to feed 10,000 hungry people.

In addition, the Thanksgiving Day meal at Mel Trotter Ministries for all those experiencing homelessness will still be served. MTM expects to serve close to 600 meals on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
