Nearly 5000 more COVID-19 cases reported over the weekend with six more deaths. Michigan is going in the wrong direction when it comes to COVID-19.

Coaches tell their players all the time, never celebrate victory until the game is over. I feel since there are COVID-19 vaccines, mentally people feel the pandemic is over because there is light at the end of the tunnel. There's a problem, people are acting like the pandemic is over when only 25% of Michigan's population has been vaccinated, which means, the pandemic is not even close to being over.

According to WOOD, the total number of coronavirus cases in Michigan is nearly 630,000 cases with just under 16,000 deaths.

With more people being able to gather, kids back to in person learning, restaurants at 50% capacity, venues at 20% capacity, new COVID-19 variants that are spreading faster, it is no wonder Michigan's cases are on the rise. It seems the state is opening up faster than its ability to control the virus and everyone should consider putting on the breaks.

Look I want to get out and be around people too, I would love to sit down in a restaurant and enjoy a good meal, I would love to go to a concert with a couple buddies and enjoy some great music, but until most of the population in Michigan have received a COVID-19 vaccine, it is just not safe to do so.

I can't stand wearing a mask and having to watch out for who might be to close to me. I want to be able to take my son to some of the indoor places around West Michigan that he enjoys to go to but it is not the right time. I want this all to be over just like everyone else but it is too soon to let our guards down.

What is also scary that now my son is back at school for in person learning, school cases are now out pacing the cases in long term facilities.

There were two more reported COVID-19 deaths in West Michigan alone this past weekend. One in Barry county the other in Oceana county.

There were nearly 250 new cases in Kent County over the weekend with the total number of cases being at a hair under 51,000.

Michigan is now the highest in the country with cases rising and the only people in control of those numbers coming down are you and I. We the people of Michigan all have to step and stick to stricter guidelines or it will be much longer before we can do all the things we used to do.

There are a lot of concerts I would like to see this summer, but at this rate of cases on the rise, those concerts are likely not to happen at all.

It sucks to say we need to rough it one more year but until everyone is vaccinated and there has been more time to see if the vaccinations are really working, we all have to stick together and patiently wear masks, social distance, stay out of large groups especially indoors whether you are vaccinated or not. There is no other way to stop this pandemic but a group effort. If only half the people continue to do the right things, plan on this being around for years to come and you not being able to do the things you love to do with other people.

Be safe, follow the rules and get registered to get your vaccination. That is how we beat this pandemic.
