Michigan DNR Auctioning Surplus Land
This week, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced it will have a sealed-bid auction of surplus public land beginning Dec. 12, 2017.
The auction will run through Jan. 10, 2018 and will feature 80 parcels. Most of the parcels are located in counties in central/northern Lower Michigan and in the Upper Peninsula. The counties include: Alpena, Arenac, Barry, Bay, Cheboygan, Dickinson, Gladwin, Iron, Kalkaska, Lake, Menominee, Midland, Montmorency, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oakland, Osceola, Oscoda and Roscommon.
The land up for auction ranges in size from less than an acre to 146 acres. Most are isolated from other DNR-managed public land which makes the properties difficult to manage. Several are forested and have riverside or lake frontage. There are also several large-acreage parcels in Alpena, Arenac, Gladwin, Menominee, Montmorency, Osceola and Roscommon counties.
