Possibly the only not great thing about spring is that it marks the beginning of pothole and road construction season in West Michigan.

The City of Grand Rapids announced Monday that a major intersection in Grand Rapids will close for two weeks in April:

The corner of Michigan Street and Fuller Avenue NE will be getting a full concrete overhaul.

The exact dates and how long the intersection will be closed will depend on the weather. However, it's expected the project will take around two weeks.

Grand Rapids Communications Director Steve Guitar said in a statement:

The complete closure allows us to complete the project in two weeks, while the other alternatives would have required phases and taken 2 to 3 months with restricted turn movements. Compared to the other alternatives, we feel the complete closure offers the least impact for drivers and businesses. We know this intersection is busy and want to get in and out as quick as possible.”

During construction, southbound Fuller traffic coming off I-196 should exit at either College Avenue or the East Beltline. Michigan Street detours will use Fulton and Leonard Streets. Fuller detours will be routed to either College or Diamond Avenues.

Two public meetings will be held for those interested in getting more detailed information: March 26 at Wealthy Park Baptist Church at 2233 Michigan Street NE, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
