Travel web site RoadSnacks.net has compiled a list of the Ten Snobbiest Places in Michigan. And the Grand Rapids area failed to land a city on the list.

I guess that means we're down to earth and grounded. Right?

Okay, some people in East Grand Rapids can cop a bit of an attitude, but for the most part this survey proves we're all pretty fair minded around here, right?  Well, kind of. First, let's take a look at that list.

According to RoadSnacks.net here are the Ten Snobbiest Places in Michigan:

  1. Northville
  2. Rochester
  3. Plymouth
  4. Royal Oak
  5. Traverse City
  6. Petoskey
  7. Troy
  8. Novi
  9. Okemos
  10. Saline
I get Northville and Rochester, what with their high end yoga studios and plushier Bigbee Coffee locations, but Saline? Really? I know it's Ann Arbor's richer neighbor, but it seems like a small town with nicer grocery stores to me. Kind of like Caledonia.
Over all, the publication found Michigan to be less snobbier than the rest of the country, but there's a caveat to that compliment.

It turns out being on the snobby list may be a GOOD thing. Why? Well, look at the criteria the web site used to determine their 'snobbiest' cities:

We started by making a list of every place in Michigan over 5,000 people based on the 2013 American Community Survey. That left us with 61 places in Michigan.

We then looked at the following snob-tastic criteria for each of the places on the list:

  • Median home price (Higher is snobbier)
  • Median household income (Higher is snobbier)
  • Percent of population with a college degree (Higher is snobbier)
  • Private schools per capita (Higher is snobbier)
  • Theaters per capita (Higher is snobbier)
  • Art galleries per capita (Higher is snobbier)

Next, we ranked each place in each category from one to 61, where the lower the score, the snobbier the place. Finally, we averaged each place’s rankings where the place with the lowest score was crowned “The Snobbiest Place In Michgian”.

Now before we start really making fun—or rather, taking a closer look at our top 10 cities, let’s just be clear: this list may be completely scientifically proven and absolutely irrefutable (hah), but, really, it’s all in good fun. These aren’t bad places to live, so don’t get that idea.

Maybe we missed out this time, but I'll keep my nose in the air just knowing that GR is a great place to live with great things to do. I mean, seriously, does Northville have ArtPrize?

So what do YOU think is the snobbiest town in the GR area? Cascade? Rockford? Caledonia? East GR?
