Last month, Republican state Rep. Andrea Schroeder introduced a bill that would make it mandatory for schools to print the suicide hotline number on student IDs for students between 6th and 12th grades.

The bill has bipartisan support and is currently assigned to committee in the State House.  If passed, the bill would make it mandatory for schools who issue Student IDs to include a local, state, or national hotline on them.

The bill was introduced shortly after Rep. Schroeder learned about two students who died by suicide in Oakland County.  Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people ages 10 to 24 in the state of Michigan.

What do you think?  Should schools put the Suicide Hotline number on Student IDs?
