Michigan QB Opts Out, Looking To Transfer

Big Ten Football is back! And so is the transfer portal. And one Michigan player wants out.

The competition for the quarterback position has been pretty spirited, and the scuttlebutt out of Ann Arbor was that Joe Milton, a big sophomore with a big arm had won the starting position.

Which means, Dylan McCaffrey, the odds on favorite to win the position following last season is not too happy.

McCaffrey, a junior, has announced he is opting out of the 2020 season, which is set to kick off on October 24.

"Opting out" means that because of the coronavirus, McCaffrey is choosing not to play, and will retain a year of eligibility according to the NCAA.

ESPN is reporting that McCaffrey will then place his name in the transfer portal, which will allow other college teams to court his services for 2021.

McCaffrey saw backup action behind Shea Patterson in 2019. His dad, Ed McCaffrey, is a former NFL receiver who is currently the head coach at Northern Colorado University, which means Dylan may be off to lay for his dad. Dylan's brother, Christian, is a star player in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers.

Prior to McCaffrey's announcement, Grand Rapids star offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield had opted out of the 2020 season, has had starting wide receiver Nico Collins, who seems headed for the NFL draft.

So it will be a different UM offense that takes the field next month than originally expected.
