A night in jail or a 30 foot drop onto the cold, hard earth? This poor Michigan teen got both.

Teen Was Driving A Stolen Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 When He Ran Out Of Gas

The bad night out started late Wednesday when the 14-year-old boy was one of several teens who swiped brand new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500s from the Flat Rock Ford Assembly Plant. The cars have a sticker price well above $100,000.

The Woodhaven Police Department immediately put out an APB for the stolen vehicles.

Brownstone Police saw the trio driving the new cars and pursued them onto northbound I-75 near Sibley, apparently headed for Detroit. That's when one of the cars ran out of gas on an overpass, and police were able to surround it.

At that point, the juvenile made the bad decision to dash for the freeway restraining wall and jumped over it. Whether he realized it was a 30-foot drop to a vacant yard below is unclear, but the police were definitely surprised by his decision.

The 14-year-old is still in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He will be arraigned in juvenile court when he recovers.

The theft of the new cars was the latest in a series of thefts from the assembly plant, where officials have begun keeping minimal amounts of gas in the finished cars to thwart such thefts. The idea apparently worked in this case.
